How to Write a Fiverr Gig Description That Actually Converts
Your title and tags get a buyer to your gig. Your description decides whether they order, message you, or open the next seller in the list. Most sellers still write it as an afterthought: a paragraph about their passion for design, a list of software, and "feel free to contact me."
A buyer reading your description is usually comparing you against two or three other tabs. They aren't asking whether you're talented. They're asking whether you're the safe choice for their project. A good description answers that before they have to ask, and it does it in 1,200 characters, which is all Fiverr allows.
1. Open with the buyer's outcome, not your biography
Your first two lines are the most valuable space in the description, because that's often all a skimming buyer reads before deciding whether to keep going. Spend them on who the gig is for and what they walk away with.
The second version names a buyer type, implies a quality bar, and heads off a practical worry (will the files work?) before the buyer reaches your packages.
2. Answer the objections a cautious buyer won't say out loud
Every buyer runs the same silent checklist. If your description leaves an item unanswered, the buyer fills the gap with doubt, and doubt usually means ordering from someone else. Cover these:
- What exactly do I get? Name the deliverables and file formats, and say how many concepts or revisions are included.
- How does it work? Give a short process, from brief to first draft to revisions to final files, so the buyer can picture the next two weeks.
- What if I don't like it? Say how revisions work and what happens when a first direction misses.
- Is this for someone like me? Say who the gig is for, and who it isn't for.
That last point feels counterintuitive, but "Not the right fit for full rebrands of established companies — message me for those" makes you more credible to the buyers who are a fit, and it saves you from orders that turn into disputes.
3. Structure it for skimmers
Buyers don't read descriptions top to bottom; they scan for the part that answers their current doubt. A wall of text hides your answers even when they're there. A structure that fits comfortably in the limit:
- A two-line opener: who it's for, what they get.
- A short bulleted list of what's included.
- A three- or four-step process.
- One line of proof.
- One clear next step.
4. Use the space, but don't blow the limit
Fiverr won't accept a description over 1,200 characters, and anything under about 600 usually leaves the checklist above half-answered. Aim for 600–1,200 characters. When you're over, cut adjectives before you cut specifics. "Fast, high-quality, professional, unique" tells the buyer nothing. "First concepts in 3 days" tells them something they can plan around.
5. Put proof in the description itself
Your reviews and portfolio are elsewhere on the page, but the description is where the buyer is making up their mind. Restate your credibility in one concrete line: years in the niche, how many clients in the category you've worked with, or a type of client they'd recognise. A specific, modest claim is more believable than a big vague one.
6. End with a direct next step
Don't finish on "Thank you for visiting my gig!" Tell the buyer exactly what to do, and lower the risk of doing it:
Buyers who message first are already halfway to ordering, and you get to qualify them before the order starts.
What to cut
- Software lists as the main selling point. Buyers assume you have the tools, so only mention them when they affect the deliverable ("editable Figma file included").
- Promises you can't control, like "guaranteed sales" or "go viral." They read as inexperience, not confidence.
- Copy that repeats the title. The buyer already read it.
- Anything that asks the buyer to leave Fiverr or contact you off-platform. That's against Fiverr's terms and puts your gig at risk.
Description quality is one of eight dimensions we score in the free Gig Health Check: it checks length against Fiverr's limit, structure, a clear call to action, and whether you mention delivery and revisions. If you're starting from a blank page, the free Gig Builder writes a structured first draft for your category that already fits the limit.
